VP Vaping Review: Cotton & Cable Craft Liquid

Cotton & Cable Craft Liquid is a UK company based in London. They have a five juice range.

On my visit to the Vaper Expo UK – The Return (check out my visit click here) I found myself doing a lot of miles circling the event stopping at stands trying out juices, talking with vendors and then off I would go circling again. There were quite a few small stands with not much space and so filled up quite quickly with customers. Being a fairly large bloke and liking some space to try juice and talk, I would make a mental note of stands for a return visit. One stand that had caught my eye was the Cotton & Cable stand, not only was it very sophisticated looking, but it was very BUSY. Always a good sign, so a mental note was taken, but I found that every time I went past it was busy. As I was there for two days I knew I could bide my time. Mid afternoon on the Sunday I passed the stand for the umpteenth time and it started to clear. This was my chance and I started heading over and was met by Jenny, who joyfully asked me if I would like to try some juice, I answered “most certainly!”

Though a small stand, it was really well presented, smart and traditional but with a modern theme, make of that what you will, but I loved it. The juices were presented on this large wooden board, a board that could quite easily have been used to present cheese, that’s a good thing, I hasten to add. I had a chat with the guys in the stand about the juice and as I tried them they told me about the three original juices and then the other two that were relatively new and that they possibly could have done with a little more steeping. On trying the juice I could see what they were saying. At the time I was really taken a back by how good these juices were. Especially the Fruit Fool and the Hot Cross Bun. Jenny and I spoke about doing a review and Jenny said that she would contact me after the event.

A few days later I received an email from Jenny asking if I would do a review and I said that I would be delighted to do so. Jenny sent me out four of the range for the purpose of review.

If you’ve been to an event you will be aware that sometimes something tastes great at the event but you bring it home and well, you find that it isn’t that great after all on your own devices. However, I had high hopes for this range, read on and see if they deliver my expectations.

You can buy direct from Cotton & Cable, 30ml for £14.99 they only come in 3mg nicotine strength and I am taking a guess as I can’t find it that they are a 70VG/30PG mix.

The review I will be conducting will be a scent test from the open bottle of juice and then a flavour test on the devices listed below.

With no further a do, I’ll get on with the review.

Devices used:

  • Aspire Pegasus 70W @ 40watts, Aspire Triton2 with Clapton 0.5ohm coil
  • Innokin CoolFire plus 70W @ 40watts, Aspire Cleito with 0.4ohm coil
  • Joyetech Cuboid 150W @ 55watts, Geekvape Tsunami 24 with Dual Clapton 0.8ohm coils, wicked with Kendo Cotton

Fruit Fool

Scent: apples and ripe banana

Flavour: Oh my goodness, I have trained as and worked as a chef for over sixteen years and this perfectly blended juice delivers a desert flavour that would be served in any high end restaurant. I’m not a huge fan of banana in vapes but this juice is so well crafted that it adds to the experience and doesn’t come across as a sit alone flavour.

On the inhale I am greeted by sweet apple which switches to a lovely juicy pear right at the back of the inhale, both slightly creamy and luscious. On the exhale the pear continues, but tones down to this ripe banana that’s not over powering but gives a wonderful finish to the vape. Also on the exhale, I am, from time to time getting something else, a hidden gem. Not quite distinguishing but I believe to be a small amount of berries. I love how this works in the juice, making it exciting and looking forward to your next inhale. This exquisite juice delivers something very special for me making it an ADV. Now I’ve finished the review I can consume the rest of the bottle.

For those not in the know a fruit fool is not a mousse, a traditional fruit fool is made with stewed fruits mixed with custard, a modern fruit fool uses whipped cream instead of custard. A mousse is made with whipped cream and egg white (which gives it the bubbles/lighter texture).

Baked Apple

Scent: sweet baked apples

Flavour: growing up I was in the Scouts and one of the many activities I did with them was to build fires and then cook on them. Just to be clear and for those who may be concerned, I did earn my Fire Safety badge. I also earned my Cooking badge, obviously this was my first of many qualifications in catering. I seem to have digressed.

I remember bringing apples and foil to the Scout meeting and once we had got our fires going, we use to wrap our apples in foil and then place them in the external burning embers. We would leave them while we ate our sausages that we had cooked and then carefully get our apples out, oh my! They were good.

This juice reminds me so much of those times, a wonderfully crafted juice that delivers a baked apple that any Scout would be proud of. Through the inhale and on to the exhale a delightfully soft baked apple with sweet notes that sometimes taste a little caramelised. Another ADV for me. I love a juice that provokes great memories.

VP Review Rating: 10/10

Hot Cross Bun

Scent: cinnamon, bakery notes and fruity background notes.

Flavour: I love the spring and what comes with it, Easter and with it, HOT CROSSED BUNS, yum! A little confession, I go through quite a few of them, what makes it more of a problem is that companies like Tescos have started making variations of the Hot Cross Bun. You can get them with apple in, fudge and chocolate pieces in, honestly its a waistline nightmare. Though I like them all, the original is the best.

Cotton & Cable have produced something phenomenal, this juice tastes just like Hot Crossed Buns and what I find outstanding is they have been able to control the cinnamon which normally gives you a slightly harsh hit. This juice does not, it is very smooth.

On the inhale I am hit with a very rich fruit, currants that have been soaked with hints of cinnamon. On the exhale I find the cinnamon develops into a sweet bun which comes to the front and the fruit moves into the back ground. Is this an ADV? Oh my goodness, yes!

VP Review Rating: 10/10

Eton Mess

Scent: cream, meringue with strawberry back notes.

Flavour: BOOM now that is what I call a great juice! A very popular dessert in Gastro Pubs up and down the country is an Eton Mess, some do it very well, some think they need to change it and get it completely wrong. The beauty of Eton Mess it is a simple but an effective dessert. Remember SIMPLE is the key word here.

I do not know how they have done it and I raise my hat to the guys at Cotton & Cable this is yet again another phenomenal juice. Whether it is psychosomatic I don’t care because this juice does the following for me.

On the inhale I get a rich sweet luscious cream which envelopes what I can only describe as dry crunchy but crumbly pieces of meringue. On the exhale this calms into the background and notes of strawberries and raspberries popping out, sometimes evenly, sometimes separately. Amazing. I never had meringue in a vape like this juice delivers. Another great ADV for me. Well done.

VP Review Rating: 11/10

So to my conclusion, I find that Cotton & Cable have brought some excellent juices to the market, in my eyes these juices can not be classed as premium juices. They are much better than that, I’d class them as platinum juices, they certainly have exceeded my expectations. Each juice delivers an outstanding experience producing a full bodied flavour and some excellent vapour. The juice comes in glass bottles with child safety caps with pipettes and tamper rings. The labelling is fantastic with each flavour coming with its own coloured striping. The website is clear and easy to use with some great images of past events and I assume from their Instagram account. They seem to be very vocal on social media, which is great to see a company involved in the community. Sometimes you find that companies have some excellent branding but their product doesn’t live up to it. With Cotton & Cable this is certainly not the case, you can tell a lot of time and effort has not only gone into their range of fantastic juices but attention to detail of the smaller things. This is a company I am going to be watching and hope to see more flavours come out. The fifth juice is a Custard Tart and though I didn’t get the chance to review it, I am sure the quality is well with in the high standards of the others. I wish Cotton & Cable the best of luck going forward.
