VP Vaping Review: Squid Inc by E-Cigarette Direct

Squid Inc is made by  E-Cigarette Direct who are a UK company based in Swansea, South Wales. They have a 50/50 range and now have come into the shortfill market.

I went to the Vaper Expo UK in October and met the guys at Orderly Distro who are the distribution side of E-Cigarette Direct and asked if I would do a review for them on a couple of shortfill ranges. I was given for the purpose of review four flavours from Frooj a 25ml shortfill range (review coming soon) and four flavours from Squid Inc a 50ml shortfill range, which is what I have for you today.

I have done a few reviews for E-Cigarette Direct, please click the link below to check them out.

These are a shortfill range and so I have added nicotine shots. Nicotine can sometimes change the flavour of a juice or make the juice react differently, so for me to test properly I think it is important to have it as it would be vaped by a customer. Please read on and let’s take a look and see what I think of these juices.

The review I will be conducting will be a scent test from the open bottle of juice and then a flavour test on the devices listed below.

With no further a do, I’ll get on with the review.

Devices used:

  • Vaporesso Tarot 200W @ 70watts, Geekvape Tsunami 24 with Dual Clapton 0.8ohm coils, wicked with Kendo Cotton
  • Vaptio Solo II @ 50watts with 0.25ohm coil
  • Sigelei/KAOS Spectrum 220W @ 40watts, Aspire Cleito with 0.4ohm coil

The Pearl Ruby

Scent: Raspberry and nutty tones.

Flavour: how interesting, it reminds me of almond milk. But an almond milk that has been made into a raspberry milkshake. There is this lovely sharp raspberry tone through the vape, really tasty.

On the inhale I get a rich nutty milk with a touch of raspberry. On to the exhale and the nutty milk envelopes my palate and I get this sharp shot of raspberry that comes out and hits my taste buds. There is a lovely milkshake taste to the vape and an ADV for me.

VP Review Rating: 9/10

St Clements

Scent: citruses.

Flavour: If they are done right then I find a citrus vape most enjoyable. If they aren’t done well then they can be quite harsh. This is juice sits in the well done group of citrus vapes. Lovely notes of orange and lemon complimenting each other in a very smooth vape.

On the inhale I get hints of citrus notes not quite defining. On to the exhale and it is like a citrus explosion across my palate with the sweet notes of the orange equaling the sour notes from the lemon. Making for a very pleasant ADV for me.

VP Review Rating: 8/10

Barb & Cuss

Scent: rhubarb and custard.

Flavour: oh wow! This is a really good rhubarb and custard. I would class it as more of a dessert vape than a candied one. A beautiful sharp rhubarb with this luscious creamy custard.

On the inhale I get this wonderful sharp rhubarb that grows into the inhale. The rhubarb bursts out tantalising my taste buds on the exhale and is joined by a rich smooth creamy custard. A dessert vapers dream! I would also say that those who like a sour vape would probably enjoy this one too.

VP Review Rating: 9/10

 Caribbean Crush

Scent: tropical fruits.

Flavour: I was a little taken aback by how much menthol there is in this juice. I usually get a hint of it when smelling it. For me this juice seems a little unbalanced I’m afraid, I find the menthol too strong and it masks some of the fruits or doesn’t compliment them. One of the fruits lingers on the palate and it is not too pleasant. I think a creamy mango has been used, it just doesn’t sit right for me.

Straight from the off I get a strong menthol which possibly has a little koolada too. On the exhale the menthol blast continues with some touches of tropical fruits that I struggle to distinguish. There is this what I think is a creamy mango that comes in and finishes the vape.

VP Review Rating: 4/10

So to my conclusion, I find that E-Cigarette Direct with Squid Inc have brought three excellent juices to the market. I’m afraid that Caribbean Crush threw a huge curve ball for me, as I don’t feel that it stands up to the juices it stands next to in the range. All the others deliver a fantastic full-bodied flavour and excellent vapour production. There are certainly some stand out juices here.

The samples I received came in gorilla style bottles with child safety caps and tamper rings. I love the design of the labels which makes them stand out. They have a great website which is clear and easy to navigate.

VP Review Rating explained, when scoring a juice I’m looking at the quality of the juice, how close I feel the flavour is to what it says it is and how I find it stands alongside other flavours of the same type on the market:

11/10 = Awesome Stuff

8/10 – 10/10 = Differing levels of excellence

5/10 – 7/10 = Differing levels of Goodness

0/10 – 4/10 = I have issues with it

I try to write my review to be compliant with the TPD/TRPR regulations that came into force on the 20/05/17. If you would like any further details on the regulations, please click here.
